"We are seeing a number of updates on Twitter urging
users to download a file called
'tweetdeck-08032010-update.exe' from a URL beginning
with http://alturl.com/," warned a member of the
TweetDeck team. "These tweets are from hacked
accounts and this file does not come from us."
As reported by IDG News, the software is a generic
Trojan horse programme that most antivirus products
don't detect. The software downloads a variety of
different malicious programmes such as
password-stealing keyloggers. |
Whilst TweetDeck users will have to update the
software as a result of the Twitter overhaul, people
are being advised to visit the TweetDeck website to
ensure the version they are downloading is genuine
and virus-free. |
