Abbey Logistics is a Greener European Logistics Provider operating Liquid Tanks, Powder Tanks and Palletised trailers throughout the UK and Europe. In 2010 Abbey won the most coveted award in the UK transport industry – Motor Transport Haulier of the Year.

Delta Comtech have worked with Abbey for over 15 years; providing specialist advice, support, and our extensive experience and technical knowledge to support and develop their systems. Abbey needed to update the existing infrastructure to support new custom applications and their expansion into new sites, and we were asked to provide a solution that would meet these objectives.

We assessed the current systems in detail and devised a migration plan to move Abbey’s business critical systems across to new hardware and software technologies. The solution we agreed upon was a single highly redundant physical server, (a Dell T610) divided into 3 Virtual Machines, (using VMWare) to support a Windows 2008 Small Business Server, an application server to host their custom database applications, and a remote desktop server to provide access for remote users. In addition to resiliency, the hardware platform offered the potential for expansion, and provides flexibility to re-distribute their hardware resources as plans and workloads change.

Because it was a planned migration we were able to spread the work over several weeks, reducing the disruption, risk and costs at each stage. To carry out the migration we used the Small Business Server Migration tool to join the new server to the existing 2003 domain and then gradually transferred across settings, data and business critical applications.

Abbey LogisticsDue to the rapidly progressing and expanding nature of Abbey’s business we had to ensure a proactive approach and provide flexible support throughout the changes, which included office relocations during the migration. These rapid changes mean that communications are vitally important to Abbey and we continue to develop, (together with Metronet) a new managed (MPLS) network infrastructure between key locations across the country.

We continue to support Abbey Logistics throughout their growth, with a shared goal to achieve excellence in both customer service and customer relationships, based upon dedication, performance and trust.
